This glossary gathers the main terms used in SignalTurf and in French horse racing.
Its goal is to make the vocabulary found in the app easier to understand.
Early access
A Premium feature that lets you use new generations of artificial intelligence models before their general release.
Analysis
The result produced by the artificial intelligence models for a race.
Selected horse
A horse highlighted by SignalTurf following its analysis.
Convergence
A Premium indicator signaling that several independent artificial intelligence models have reached a similar analysis.
Race
A horse racing event contested by several horses.
Odds
A value used by a betting operator to calculate a bet’s potential payout.
Discipline
A category of horse race, such as trotting or galloping.
Driver
The person who drives a horse in a harness trotting race.
Trainer
The person responsible for a horse’s sporting preparation.
Favorite
The horse considered to have the best chances of winning according to betting operators’ odds.
Galloping
A horse racing discipline that mainly includes flat races and jump races.
Racecourse
The venue where horse races take place.
Artificial intelligence (AI)
The set of models SignalTurf uses to automatically analyze horse races.
Jockey
The rider mounted on a horse in a galloping race or a ridden trotting race.
AI model
An artificial intelligence program trained to analyze horse races.
Confidence level
An indicator calculated by SignalTurf estimating the strength of a prediction.
Non-runner
A horse withdrawn from a race before it starts.
Betting operator
A licensed company offering horse racing bets.
Bet
A stake placed on the outcome of a horse race with a licensed operator.
Runner
A horse actually present at the start of a race.
Performance
The historical result observed for the analyses produced by SignalTurf.
Prediction
A selection of horses automatically proposed by SignalTurf before a race starts.
Meeting
The set of races held at the same racecourse on a given day.
R1, R2, R3…
The identifier of a horse racing meeting.
For example, R2 refers to the day’s second meeting.
C1, C2, C3…
The identifier of a race within a meeting.
For example, R1 C4 refers to the fourth race of the first meeting.
Selection
The set of horses chosen by SignalTurf for a given bet type.
Sulky
A light two-wheeled cart used in harness trotting races.
Success rate
The percentage of predictions that met the evaluated criterion.
Trotting
A horse racing discipline in which the horse must maintain a trot throughout the race.
Harness trotting
A trotting race in which the horse pulls a sulky driven by a driver.
Ridden trotting
A trotting race in which the horse is ridden by a jockey.
Update
An automatic refresh of an analysis when new information is likely to change the predictions.
